Hi from Caroline and Abby!

Hi all!  We hope you are getting excited for the Earthwatch expedition, Trinidad's Leatherback Sea Turtles Teen Team, July 16-27, 2012.

This blog will help record and share our activities in Trinidad - feel free to share the link with your family and friends. We hope team members can contribute to this so viewers can read about our day-to-day activities, such as studying these guys:

We would also like to introduce ourselves, your expedition facilitators!

Caroline:

I am a native of rural Rhode Island, but have lived and worked in many places around Latin America and the Caribbean – notably, Peru, Ecuador, and Costa Rica.  I definitely have a travel bug and like to explore new places! I have been a classroom teacher, trip leader and counselor – I love working with young people – especially when we are rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty.  At Earthwatch, I work with volunteers like you, helping them get ready for the field. When I am not in the office, I can be found running, gardening, cooking, hiking, fishing….just about anything outside.   I love the ocean, and am very excited to learn about Sea Turtles in Trinidad with all of you!

Abby:

I grew up on a farm in Nebraska taking care of the animals and plants that my family raised. While studying horticulture in college, I was able to take some amazing trips to Russia, Brazil, China, and Hawaii where I participated in seed collecting, mapping, and visited several gardens. I currently work for Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) U.S. office, and provide plant conservation information and tools to public gardens around the world. In my free time, I love to hike, garden, and play basketball. I am excited to meet you all soon and look forward to an awesome experience in Trinidad!

If you have any questions prior to the trip, feel free to contact us. SEE YOU SOON!!
